AaaS: A Terrible Acronym for a Brilliant Business Model

Oct 14, 2026

AaaS is an unfortunate acronym. But, it’s important. It’s important that you know about AaaS and what it could do for your business. AaaS is a big deal these days.

Agents as a Service (AaaS): AI that handles a specific, repeatable task in your business, set up and run by someone (i.e. a consultant) who makes sure it keeps working.

What’s an example of an AaaS solution?

Example: Lead follow-up for a home services company (i.e. HVAC & Plumbing)

  • Problem: After-hours calls and web form leads sit until morning, and by then about 30% of those customers have already booked a competitor.

  • Agent: It answers web leads and missed-call texts within 2 minutes, asks what the job is and where, and books a slot on the dispatch calendar. Emergencies and big jobs go to a person.

  • Consultant’s role: Measure the current response time and the share of leads that become booked jobs, set up the agent, review conversations every week, tune the scripts and booking rules, and report each month.

  • Result (illustrative): Response time drops from hours to minutes, and 15–25% more leads become booked jobs. At $400 per job, that can be $10K+ a month in extra revenue.

Why would a company hire a consultant to implement an AaaS solution? Here is how it looks to an owner:

  • Do it themselves: 3–9 months, an uncertain result, and a key person pulled off their job.

  • Hire a full-time AI/ops person: $90K–$150K+ a year. Hard to find, and overkill for a 75-person company.

  • Bring in a Consultant: results in weeks, the ROI measured, and the company chooses whether to keep the consultant or take it in-house.

What can AaaS do for you?

Agents as a Service can provide your business with rapid outcomes tied to profitable growth, productivity enhancements, & increased customer service at a reasonable price point. Additionally, your AaaS provider should become your AI subject matter expert that informs you how new model releases impact your business and shows you how to capitalize on those enhancements.
